Tik Tok App Scams: How To Find Someone on Tik Tok and Avoid Scams at the Same Time

When we are bored, we are constantly looking for something to do on our phones to distract ourselves from doing nothing. A good app to fill our time with entertaining content is Tik Tok, which is an app that features videos made by its users. This is usually popular among people who are either teenagers or in their twenties, which means that TikTok app scams are more likely.

Most parents who know about Tik Tok either enforce that their child keeps their account private or don’t even know that their child has an account. There are also those who have significant others with a tik tok that cheat on their partners with someone they meet on the app.

Even if you are just a normal user who uses tik tok for fun, you can still run into scammers and online predators who are lying about who they really are. Here are some tips on how to use this fun video sharing app safely, and how to find someone on Tik Tok.

How to Find Someone on the Tik Tok App

  • You can search for their username. Tap the magnifying glass on the bottom left of your screen. Once you do that, it should take you to a search bar where you can search the username or name of who you want to find.
  • You can scan their QR code. Borrow the phone of the person you want to find on Tik Tok. Go into their Tik Top app, and tap the magnifying glass on the bottom left of your screen. By the search bar, there should be a bar code scanner icon that you can tap. After you do that, you click on My TikCode and take a picture of it with your Tik Tok app to view their profile.
  • You can find them using your contacts list. Go to your profile and click the icon with a person and a plus sign on the top left corner. Then click “Find Contacts”, confirm your phone number, and you’ll see all your contacts that have synced their Tik Tik to their phone number with accounts.
  • You can find them using your Facebook friends’ list. Go to your profile and click the icon with a person and a plus sign on the top left corner. Then click “Find Facebook Friends” and sign in to your Facebook account. Then find out which of your Facebook friends have their account linked to their Tik Tok.

Tik Tok App Scams to Avoid

  • Fake accounts that claim to sell inappropriate content. There are accounts that post revealing videos of girls in bikinis to try and trick people into following them. Once people are lured into these accounts, they will follow said people back and message the to check out their Snapchat for more content. Once they go on their Snapchat, they usually see more revealing images or videos of girls and ask for money in order for you to see more content. Usually, they take your money and only give you limited content before asking for more money so that you can get more content.
  • Scammers trying to get you to download apps claiming to get you more followers. There are people who mimic popular accounts to get people to follow them. Once they’re followed, they start promoting fake apps that supposedly gets you more followers. Once you download these apps and enter your username, fake bots start following your account and the scammer earns 60 cents for each person that uses their app. This could also infect your device with malware.
  • People claiming to pretend to be someone they aren’t to get you to fall in love with them. These people are either scammers trying to steal your money, or online predators trying to find their victims.

Signs that who you’re talking to is a catfish include:

    • People who work overseas and give every excuse they can not to FaceTime.
    • People who say “I love you” too fast.
    • For teenagers, people who say “don’t tell your parents” or “don’t tell anyone”
    • People who want to meet up too fast.

How to Avoid Tik Tok App Scams

  • Don’t give anyone on Tik Tok your personal information.
  • If an account seems suspicious, unfollow them and block them.
  • Don’t click on any untrusted external links.
  • Be wary if someone you don’t know messages you.
  • Don’t believe someone if they say they fell in love with you really fast.
  • For teenagers, tell your parents if who you’re talking to tells you not to.
  • Don’t meet with anyone you don’t know without video chatting them first.

If you feel like you’re talking to a catfish on Tik Tok, Social Catfish is here to help! You can reverse search any phone numbers, names, usernames, or email addresses you have received from this person. You can also reverse search any pictures they have sent you to verify if it’s really them or not.
