Angela lost all of her savings, from jewelry to the roof over her head, and ended up sending $7,000 through PayPal to various people associated with the scammer. In addition to purchasing the NFT, she also spent money on arranging travel to meet the imposter.
The scammer pretended to be Johnny Depp in every sense, claiming to be involved in music, art, movies, and more. Angela was convinced that the person she was communicating with was the real Johnny Depp and even remembered a video where he yelled her name at a concert. However, when she tried to locate the video, she was unable to find it.
When Angela sent the scammer a photo of herself, he responded with a photo of himself holding a picture of Angela. However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that the face of Johnny Depp had been photoshopped onto the body in the image, and his tattoos did not match those on his real arms and hands.
Despite the evidence that the person she had been communicating with was a scammer, Angela still believed that he was the real Johnny Depp and continued to communicate with him daily. The scammer even refused to click on an IP tracking link, suggesting that he was an experienced scammer who knew how to avoid getting caught.
