Multiple Faces Detected

Sometimes catfish use obscure names and obscure pictures in order to fool people. However, in some rare cases, they’re too lazy to even do that. That’s how Tamara ended up chatting with the famous rock band Hootie & The Blowfish’s lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Darius Rucker or so she thought. What Happened?
When Tamara fell terribly ill, which left her in the hospital for a lengthy amount of time, her marriage ended. This is around the time when she decided to download the app, TikTok. TikTok isn’t a dating app though. TikTok is a social media platform and smartphone app that allows users to create and share short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy, and education, that have a duration from 15 seconds to 3 minutes (three minutes for certain users). TikTok is known for its unique features such as lip-syncing, editing tools, augmented reality filters and a large, active and diverse user community. Launched in 2016, TikTok has become one of the most popular social media apps, particularly among younger generations.
She presumably downloaded it for entertainment’s sake and that’s when she was messaged by Darius out of the blue. She ended up chatting with Darius everyday on Google Hangouts. Darius was a troubled country singer who had undergone a divorce. His ex-wife turned his finances up side down after the divorce leaving him in ruin. Because of his plight, Tamara decided to help him out and send him a laptop and two iPhones for him to be able to talk to her. However, he told her that he never received them. In addition to that problem, he told Tamara that his ex-wife had taken his properties but that he can get them back in court. He just needed help paying for an attorney.
Tamara aided Darius out in paying for an attorney and Apple and Google gift cards. She’s even opened bitcoin accounts to send 20,000 in bitcoin to him from her cash app. She’s sent an iPhone to him last October and still hasn’t gotten so much as a call from him. In total, Tamara lost $30,000.
How We Went About Finding The Person In The Photos?
Not much went into trying to find out who the person was. It was already known that the person Tamara thought she was talking to was the famous country music singer Darius Rucker. We ran a reverse image search on the photo above and found the original image of Darius Rucker and the original image of a man holding up the sign. We discovered that the photo was photoshopped. Somebody with a close eye could probably tell it was photoshopped without using a reverse image search.
Miscellaneous Interesting Research Facts
The SCAMFISH team devised a plan to prove to her that he’s fake. We visited Darius at a local concert and cross referenced the story he was sharing with Tamara. While we were at his concert, in Southern California, he claimed to be at his home in Tennessee. He can’t be at two places at once thus proving to her she’s not speaking to the real Darius.
