A 51-year-old transwoman named Stac has been looking for a man online but has instead stumbled upon two Nigerian romance scammers who keep asking her for money. So far, she has lost over $2,300 to these men who she has met on Tinder named Jonathan and Chizy from Africa. During the Scamfish interview with David McClellan, these romance scammers would continuously call her, so we decided to test their love for Stac. We also talked to her about her past with online dating.
What Happened When She First Tried Online Dating?
Stac started online and phone dating when she was in her 40’s and would meet men on phone chat lines. After talking to one man from North Seattle, he asked her to go hang out with him at his place. When she got to his place, he pulled a gun on her and fought her in his kitchen. She stabbed him over 20 times due to self-defense in his home.
The man saw an opportunity to take advantage of a woman who he thought was weaker than him. However, she had the upper hand and was able to defend herself. Now, she has rules for when she goes on a first date. She won’t ride in anyone’s car, she will not go to anyone’s home, and she will not allow anyone to her home.
Did Jonathan Prove His Love for Stac or Is He a Nigerian Romance Scammer?
Over the course of the interview, Jonathan had called Stac 15 times within the span of 20 minutes. Because of this, David decided to call him and see what his true intentions are with Stac. When he first answered, he said that Stac was his life, even though he has asked her for money in the past.
David asked Jonathan what attracted him to Stac, and he responded that true love comes from the heart and he just felt it every time he talked to Stac. While he is a smooth talker, it sounded rehearsed since many Nigerian romance scammers use that line when victims ask scammers about their love.
David then challenges the Nigerian romance scammer by asking him a series of questions:
What is her favorite color?: When he asked Jonathan what her favorite color was, he states that he doesn’t know at first. David then tells him to at least guess, and Jonathan guesses red which is correct.
How many siblings does Stac have?: Jonathan guessed that Stac had two brothers and two sisters, which was incorrect. She actually has 9 siblings in total.
When is Stac’s birthday?: Jonathan states he never asked about that, to which David replied, “You’re in love with her, but you have never asked for her birthday?”
Knowing that the Nigerian romance scammer lost the game, he starts spitting out rehearsed lines to “prove his love for Stac.” He claims that if he looks deep into her eyes, she knows that he’s in love with her. He tries to convince everyone in the room that he doesn’t have to know the answers to the questions to prove his love for her.
Did Chizy Prove His Love for Stac or Is He a Nigerian Romance Scammer?
What do you love about Stac?: “I love everything about her,” Chizy responds.
What about her personality do you love the most?: “She’s sweet,” he responds.
When is her birthday?: “I don’t know her birthday,” he responds.
What is Stac’s favorite color?: “Uhhh…” was his response.
What is the length of her real hair?: He pointed to his cheek to say it was that length when in reality it’s to her shoulders.
David then asks him if he is into transwomen and what he likes about Stac other than being trans. He also calls Chizy out and says that he really hasn’t said anything about her and didn’t even get her hair length right.
“I love… that she has a beautiful heart and I love her. She’s beautiful.”
What about her heart is beautiful?: “I think she’s beautiful and I love her heart. She has a good heart.”
The Verdict… Were They Nigerian Romance Scammers?
Stac thinks that they were telling her what she wanted to hear instead of loving her with their whole hearts. She thinks that most men are curious because a lot of men have not dated a transwoman before. If a man has gone down that avenue before, she thinks that he wouldn’t let anyone know. All she was looking for was sex from them, she wasn’t looking for anything more. At the end of the day, she does believe that they were Nigerian romance scammers using her for money.
