Beth has been single for years. It seemed like all of her relationships had fallen apart. She had been married twice, and in both of her marriages, her husband told her that she wasn’t the love of their lives. And both times, this was devastating to her. And what’s worse, her most recent boyfriend cheated on her continuously.
So Beth had been single for years, but she passed the time by watching her favorite show, “SEALS” which was about a team of Navy Seals and their exciting missions. She was such a big fan of the show that she followed all of the leading actors on social media, and was very active in the community, especially when it came to her favorite actor, Scott Foxx.
Beth was surprised when one day, she opened up Facebook and saw that Scott Foxx sent her a friend request. She was surprised, for a second, but she decided that she was not. She realized that it made sense because she was constantly in the chat rooms and on the Facebook fan pages.
But surprised or not, she was excited to talk to her favorite actor, and maybe even her favorite person on the planet. They started talking every day, and not too long after, another actor from the show reached out to her and they started talking. She was very interested in their conversations together because she already knew so much about them from being such a big fan of theirs for so many years. But because of this, she did not believe Scott actually wanted a relationship with her, because she knew that the actor was engaged…
But James said that he had a friend who was single and would be interested in her. He sent her the photo of his friend, and she liked him, so they started talking and she was amazed to find out that this guy had all of the same interests as her. He was into bodybuilding, just like her, he rode motorcycles too just like her… it was almost as if he was made for her.
As the conversation when on, he started asking her for money. Small amounts at first. The first time he asked, he wanted to buy a german shepherd for his birthday. Next, he needed money to buy “military equipment”, and then, he needed money for food… Things weren’t adding up, so she reached out to social catfish to get answers.
We found out that the third guy she was talking to was undoubtedly not who he said he was. In reality, he was a Navy Seal with an Instagram presence, and his name was “Dustin” not “James”. We traced his location and also found out that he was not on a peacekeeping mission overseas, but was in fact, in Logos Nigeria.
When reflecting on how she could have fallen for this scam, Beth looks back on her past relationships and contrasts it with her online relationship with her romance scammer. And she says that after being married twice and going years without knowing what it was like to be called beautiful, the affection in her most recent relationship was enough to make her fall for him, and ignore the signs.
