Happn Scams: 5 Sneaky Scams to Watch Out For

Everyone wants to find their happily ever and will do everything they can to meet the love of their life, even if it means downloading a dating app and chatting various strangers. Many dating apps exist to help people either meet who they are supposed to be with, or find a one-night stand.

There is a certain dating app in particular called Happn, which is gaining popularity quickly for its physical location-based feature. Instead of looking for people within the same city, it looks for people who are physically near you that you might cross paths with every day and not even realize it.

Even though it uses this physical location feature, there are still scammers that lurk the app and perform Happn scams. These scams can vary, and it is always a good idea to look out for signs that you are being scammed.

Is Happn Full of Fake Profiles?

Like any dating app or online platform, it’s possible that Happn may have some fake profiles or bots. To address this concern, Happn has several measures in place to verify and authenticate user profiles, such as requiring users to connect their Facebook or Instagram accounts to their Happn profile. The app also uses a location-based algorithm to match users with other nearby users, which can help to minimize the presence of fake profiles or scammers from other countries.

How Scammers Perform Happn Scams

  • Girls will go on Happn and scam you for inappropriate pictures. They will get to know you and ask if you want to add them to either Snapchat or a video chatting service. Once you’re on there, they will either ask for money continuously for their inappropriate pictures or take your inappropriate pictures and put them all over the internet. They will then demand you give them money for them to take your pictures down.
  • People who are pretending to be someone else will catfish you and try to form a relationship with you. They will then rush a relationship with you and gain your trust so that they can either steal your money or inappropriate pictures. They could also have even worst intentions and attempt to kidnap you. If someone is in the military and is having to go out of the country as an excuse not to meet you, or has a fake-looking flawless picture, then chances are you’re being catfished.
  • People trying to scam you will most likely take their conversation with you outside the app. This allows for the scammer to get away with whatever scam they are performing and not get reported on the app. If they get reported on the app, their account gets deleted.
  • They ask for personal or financial information, or they request money. There should be no reason that a person you just met online would want need your personal or financial information. They would only use this to commit identification or financial fraud. Do not give anyone your information or your money for any reason.
  • They send you suspicious links. If you receive a random link from someone on Happn, don’t click on it. The link is probably filled with malware that will give your device a virus, or it’ll steal your personal information to give the scammer access to your funds.

How to Avoid These Scams

  • Don’t give out your personal or financial information. There’s no reason that someone would need your personal or financial information other than to steal it for fraud scams. Don’t give anyone this information because it could lead to them performing identity or financial fraud which would allow them to steal your funds.
  • Don’t give money to anyone for any reason. This will allow them to know that you have the money and can give them more money when they demand it. A scammer won’t leave you alone after giving them money once, they will ask for money again and again until you can’t give them money anymore. People who you form relationships with online could also be scammers, which is why you should avoid giving anyone you meet online money.
  • Don’t click on any suspicious links. If you click on any random links given to you, it could contain a virus or ask for personal or financial information that could lead to your scammer stealing funds.

What To Do if You’ve Been Scammed

If you feel like you’ve been a victim of Happn scams, report your scammer to Happn immediately so that they can inspect the suspected scammer and delete their account. This is important because once their account gets deleted, it becomes less likely that someone else will also be scammed.

You can also call local law enforcement if you know your scammer is local so that they can investigate it and hopefully get your money back for you. There’s also a chance your scammer will be fined or arrested, depending on the severity of the crime.

You can also run a reverse search on the suspected scammer with any information or pictures you have of them. All you need to do is put the image or information in the search bar, and Social Catfish takes care of the rest.
