The power of a story is something that can never be understated. In fact, stories are all we know. It’s how we organize the world at its most basic level. Who are you? The story you tell yourself you are, mixed with the stories others tell about you.
Sally has been married three times in her life. From her marriage, she was given daughters that she loves so much, but as far as love goes, she never found a man that could make her feel like she was living in a fairy tale like the ones in the Disney movies we’ve been accustomed to seeing. That is until Franklin came along.
Franklin came along when Sally was in a downstate in her life. She was feeling lonely and needed someone to talk to. Franklin came along and offered her a little bit or relief from the tough times.
It felt as if Franklin brought her back to life, making her feel things that she thought were impossible at her age and with the things she had lived through. She became addicted to his attention, his kind words, and his “Presence” in her life.
The problems began early. “Franklin” was an American doctor in Yemen. He was there to help heal people from their wounds resulting from the conflict in the region. As he texted Sally, he claimed that one day he was helping someone and a conflict broke out. He was shot in the back of the leg and rushed to the hospital. He was there healing, and once he was healed, he told Sally that he was thrown in jail for his inability to pay his medical bills.
While he was sitting in jail, he was beaten up and sent back to the hospital. He claimed that he needed $3,000 to be able to pay his medical bills. Up to this point, Sally sent him hundreds of gift cards amounting in over $50,000. Because of all of his previous “emergencies”, Sally didn’t even have $30 left in her bank account, let alone 50,000!
When Franklin heard this, he was sent into a rage. He yelled at her and threatened to block her from everything. This caused sally a great amount of distress. She believed everything that franklin told her. So in her mind, her lover was injured and stranded in a foreign, war-torn nation, and he needed her help, but she couldn’t come to his aid. And now, instead of being the object of his love and desire, she became the target of his rage.
Sally’s daughters noticed a change in her. She went from being happy and easygoing to being trapped in a state of depression. And what’s more, she was asking all of her children for money for a mysterious purpose. Sally’s daughters were worried about their mother and were completely unaware of the cause of her troubles. It wasn’t until one of Sally’s daughters heard her on the phone with an unknown man. She in that moment she was able to piece it all together in her head. She was beside herself with anger. She marched up to her mother and snatched the phone from her hand and began to unleash the rage and frustration she had pent up inside of her from the last couple of weeks of watching her mother suffer. Now she knew that the strange man behind the phone was the reason.
Despite all of this, Sally was unable to walk away from the situation. She loved Franklin and she believed or wanted to believe that he loved her too.
Her daughter reached out to social catfish to help find some answers in hopes of freeing her mother from Franklin’s manipulative grasp. Our team went to work on locating the flaws in Franklin’s persona to expose him for what he truly is.
When conducting our research we were able to find out that Sally was one of many women the “Franklin was manipulating. By following the paper trail, we were able to find out to who Franklin had been sending the money to. It was three women living in different states all over the country. When we got in contact with one of the women who was unknowingly working as a money mule, we were able to hear the story that franklin told her to get her to receive the money. It was a completely different “emergency” that made him need the money. Franklin claimed that his father was on his death bed and he need the money for his care in his last days. This was a lie.
We found the real man in the images. His real name is Kevin C. and he is a real doctor practicing in the united states. We found a mountain of evidence, but finding the true identity of the man in the photos was the final straw. The final piece of information made the conclusion undeniable. ‘Franklin’ was a scammer, and Sally was a victim of a scam.
