Social Catfish is here to help a woman named Jeanie from Arizona. She has been dating a man online and wants us to figure out why this man won’t meet her in person. She met James Frank a year ago on Instagram and has fallen in love with his sweet words. However, she is confused since he is consistently asking her for money. She is now living out of hotel rooms so that she can help fund his return home. Will we be able to figure out this man’s true identity and confirm that it’s a military romance scam? Watch the video below and continue reading to find out.
When Did James Frank Start Asking Jeanie for Money?
James Frank hit her up on Instagram by commenting on a photo about her dog and they hit it off right away. He asked for help financially so that he could come home from the Middle East. Because of this, she sent him about $5,000. Jeanie did everything she could to get this guy home from his deployment. She sent James money for a plane ticket and hotel fees so that he could come and visit her. She wanted to start her future with him, so she was desperate for him to come to Arizona and see her in person.
He texted her that he was at the hotel in Phoenix and that he was going to drive to Bullhead City to take her breakfast. However, he never showed up. After sending all of this money, James stopped replying to her, and Jeanie was contacted by an account claiming to be a friend of James. The friend, who claimed his name was Marcus, claimed that James was in jail in Phoenix. He claimed that he had just got off the phone with James and that he was fine. He claimed that he loves her and will call her when it is all straightened out.
Another Man Was Using the Same Photos as James Frank
After James was thrown in Jail, another Instagram account got in contact with Jeanie. He was using the same photos and claimed that his name was Allen Frank. Jeanie thought that Allen was really rude. He told Jeanie that in order to be with her he needed money. He told her to send him $300 worth of Google Play cards or they were done and kept asking her for money.
This is bizarre now we have 2 different profiles using the same photos with different names. Jeanie thought for sure one of them had to be the real man so she started to question both of the profiles. She was questioning a lot of things about Allen like why did he have those pictures and that name, why was he using the exact same photos as James, and why was he pretending to be someone he wasn’t. He kept claiming that he really was that person in the photos but Jeanie didn’t believe him.
James Frank Comes Back Into the Picture
After talking to Allen Frank for months James Frank came back into the picture. James started talking to Jeanie again on Valentine’s Day, and she thought he was real by the way he was sweet when talking to her. He sent her a message saying he loves her and wants her to forgive him, but she can’t keep forgiving him anymore. At this point, Jeanie was confused as to who the real man was. She was madly in love with James Frank, but Allen Frank continued to write her and that’s when she reached out to us.
“I sacrificed so much for him. So much. I’m reaching out to Social Catfish to help me come down with the truth. Why he takes my money and makes promises to me and gives me false hope and when he tries to come to me he doesn’t,” she said crying, “I live out of hotels because I sent him the money I didn’t have just to have a life with him.”
Social Catfish’s Search Specialist Investigates This Military Romance Scam
After receiving this video from Jeanie, our search specialist Linnie scoured the internet.
She started with Marcus. A scammer will make a main profile that is supposed to be the person you are supposedly “dating.” Then, that same scammer will create other fake profiles and pretend to be that main person’s family members and friends. Since the main person has people on their friends’ list, the victim thinks that they are a legit person, because how can someone that is fake have people on their friends’ list? However, scam profiles can have people on their friends’ list by creating other fake profiles that pretend to be their loved ones.
After looking into Allen’s and James’ profiles which were using the same man’s photos, Linnie found a third account that happened to be legit. Our team looked at photos sent in to us and looked up public records to see who the real man was in the photos. While the men in the photos were real people, the people talking to Jeanie stole the photos and were not real. We know this because we ran the images through our reverse image search program and they ended up finding the real man’s friends who was tagging his real profile in photos.
This girl was tagging him in photos of people who looked like his family members. Out of all the profiles on the internet, this profile looked the most legit since the other profiles didn’t have as many photos or were newer than this profile. They also found that on the profile of the real man, the photos were older than the ones posted on other accounts and he was tagged in photos by another girl.
Social Catfish reached out to the girl who tagged him in photos since the guy didn’t respond to them. She confirmed his identity was real since she hangs out with him all the time. We then went back and looked at public records to make sure that our sources were being honest with us. We took the first and last name and location of that person and reverse searched it on our platform.
We found a hit on this person’s public information which led us back to the social media accounts that we found but not the same social accounts that Jeanie found. The real guy finally responded back to Social Catfish stating that he was not interested in doing an interview due to his job position. However, he feels bad about what happened to her. He stated that he did not know her and never spoke to her.
The guy that Jeanie is talking to has stolen this man’s photos and is pretending to be him to steal money from her. In a romance scam, they target military members and fall in love right away, and come up with an excuse as to why they need money. They claim that they need money for food, money for medical bills, money to get home, and many more excuses. When the time comes where they are supposed to visit you, they never show up. They ghost you or come up with an excuse as to why they couldn’t come and it never stops.
If she keeps talking to this guy he’s going to keep asking her for money over and over again and it’s not going to stop. This is why Jeanie has given up everything for the romance scammer she was talking to. She got the money she gave him through her stimulus checks and tax returns. Social Catfish is going to try and give the scammer a call so that we can track his location, we are keeping in touch with Jeanie.
