Natalia is a woman from Ukraine who was tricked out of $55,000. She was in communication with a man who claimed to be an engineer overseas. He originally approached her as a mentor in business through linked-in, but eventually, the two started connecting on a deeper level. This is a story full of twists and turns and at the end of it, the real man in the photos comes on the show to clear his name.
Natalia is a freelance writer living in Ukraine. Because of her job, she spends a lot of time surfing the internet to network and make connections. One day when she was on Linked in, she met a man named Francesco who said that he was a millionaire and he wanted to mentor her. Over the months of talking, the two developed a bond. They talked for over a year and a half until Francisco went to jail, and he needed Naralia’s help to get released.
Natalia agreed to help Francisco under one circumstance, he needed to sign a contract promising to repay her in full. He agreed, and Natalia sent him the money. Once he got out of jail, he needed more money for more emergencies.
Over the course of their relationship, Natalia sent him over $55,000. Once she found out it was a scam, she did research of her own using the tools on socialcatish.com
During her research, she found the real man in the photos named Emanual Ceasar and reached out to him. Emanual made a video response to Natalia telling her that he’s never heard of her, and he had his images stolen all the time. Natalia didn’t believe him. She insisted that they video chatted and that he was laying to her.
She reached out to social catfish to see if we could help give her the answers she’s looking for.
During Our Research, We Reached Out to The Man in The Photos
During our research, we found that all of the information available on the scammer’s persona was newly created. The phone numbers were VOIP, and the Emails were aliases. To confirm that this was a scam, and to clear Emanuel’s name, we reached out to him to come on the show and tell the story from his perspective. Once Natalia met Emanuele face to face, she immediately grilled him. She demanded to see his passport and asked him to confirm all of the details listed on it.
Natalia insisted that she had video chatted with him before, and Emanuele denied it. We explained to Natalia that scammers steal videos of people all of the time and create glitch-filled video calls to convince their victims that it’s really them in the video. Natalia explained that she is a linguist and she would be able to tell if it wasn’t really him in the video, and she believe without a shadow of a doubt that Emanuele was working with the romance scam companies in Nigeria to scam people out of their money.
In the end, Emanuele maintained his innocence, but Natalia wasn’t satisfied. Having lost over $55,000 and the potential of a marriage and a family with someone she thought was the man of her dreams, Natalia was unsatisfied and heartbroken.
