Sharon Sesbreno was married for 15 years, and divorced her ex-husband. She started to search for love online to fill the lonely void, and met a guy named Daniel Dailey on Instagram. He messaged her claiming he wanted to get to know her better. They talked for a year before she became suspicious that he might be a scammer. He started asking her for money, claiming that he was stuck in Ghana and needed to claim his inheritance. Sharon came to Social Catfish to share her experience and figure out who was really behind the romance scam.
What Did the Scammer First Say to Sharon to Sweep Her Off Her Feet?
Daniel told Sharon that he was looking for a Christian woman who would stick by his side forever. She told him at first that she hoped he would find one and wished him luck. Then he turned around and told her that he hoped it was her. He swept her off her feet when he said those words and talked every day about their futures after that moment.
He also told Sharon that he was a single widow, looking for a partner that would last him a lifetime. He told her that his wife died in a car crash, which left him lonely and heartbroken.
Sharon told him that she wasn’t sure that he was the one if she couldn’t see him, since he claimed he couldn’t video chat with her. However, her mind instantly changed with the many conversations they would have.
Why Couldn’t Daniel Video Chat with Sharon?
Daniel claimed that his cell phone was stolen in Ghana, and his computer didn’t have a webcam, making it impossible to video chat with her, even though they spoke on the phone for an hour each day for a full year.
How Did Daniel Fool Sharon with Sending Him Money in This Romance Scam?
When Sharon thought that she was in love and happy, things started to take a turn for the worst. He told her about a large sum of money of $900 million, and stated that he needed her help to claim it. If she couldn’t help him, he would be stuck in Ghana with no way to get back home. Daniel promised Sharon 20% of 900 million dollars if she would assist him in getting this money.
She would wonder why he would keep sending her bank certificates, and he would tell her how much he loved her and trusted her to be the co-inheritor of his money. She thought this was all real and had no suspicions it was a scam at first because someone called, telling her they were from the specific bank he would talk about.
Sharon Gets a Loan to Help the Scammer in Romance Scam
She got a loan of the $1,500 she supposedly needed to release the $900 million from the bank. Daniel was running out of money and told her he could not afford to pay to inherit the $900 million he needed to go back home. She decided to help Daniel because of how much she loved him, not knowing what his true intentions would end up being.
“I promise you that this 20% is yours from this $900 million,” is what he told her when convincing her to get the loan.
“It was like I was blinded (by love) because that’s a lot of money,” she said when talking about her experience.
Sharon is Stuck in Saudi Arabia and Can’t Get Back Home to the Philippines
Sharon worked in Saudi Arabia to help fund her household in the Philippines. She would send money to her family to fund her household before she met Daniel. However after meeting Daniel, her priorities shifted. Her money started going to Daniel instead of her family, and she ended up having to take loans out just for him. She then realized that she was running out of money, and to this day still can’t get back to her house in the Philippines. She feels trapped in Saudi Arabia broke and alone, ashamed that she was scammed out of all her money.
Her kids still don’t know that she was scammed out of all her money, and has been praying to God to get back home to them. Because she doesn’t have any more money, the scammer stopped talking to her since he couldn’t get what he wanted. She was in love with him, but has learned a lesson since then that people will pretend as much as they want to use and disrespect you.
How Will Sharon Pay Back Her Loan?
This loan is the biggest loan she’s ever taken out in her entire life, and she’s still having to pay it back. She is supposed to pay $1,500 a month to her family in order to support her household in the Philippines, but can’t due to the amount of money she needs to pay back on her loan. Social Catfish founder, David McClellan, has stated that he was going to talk to his vice president and help Sharon pay back the loan so she can get back home.

When reverse searching the images, we discovered that a few of them were photoshopped. We were also able to find out who the real person in the photos was. The guy in the photos was a man named Naseem Bastoni, a businessman in Saudi Arabia. The Instagram account with his photos that was used to communicate with Sharon has been deleted.
