Sarah is a mother of two children who attended a concert for Halid Muslimovic, a Bosnian singer. During the concert, Halid pulled her aside and asked her out on a date, which Sarah said yes to. One of her friends gave her his phone number, and they started getting to know one another which led to forming a romantic relationship with one another very quickly.
How Did Halid Muslimovic Scam Sarah Out of Money?
They were in a long-distance relationship for three years, where she traveled back and forth to Bosnia to see him when she could. During their romantic relationship, he asked her countless times to help her finance his music which totaled over 400 thousand dollars in the past three years. He always promised her to pay it back, but she had never seen a penny of it.
Since Sarah was usually reliable with her finances as a former mortgage broker, she started wondering when Halid would ever pay her back. She traveled over to Bosnia to confront the singer on what happened to her money and when he was able to pay her back. He proceeded to punch her in the face when she came up with that question and bit her arm. He left her with countless injuries to where Sarah almost died when all she wanted was her money back.
Halid Paid the Price for What He Did to Sarah
He tried to tell police that he wasn’t responsible for her injuries and that Sarah did it to herself. However, when they saw the bite mark on her arm, they knew that Halid was lying. He was hit with assault charges and made Bosnian tabloid headlines for what he did to Sarah.
She reported him to her bank, Western Union, where they looked over the details of what Sarah was going through. They concluded that Sarah had been a part of a love scam, which meant that Halid only pretended to love her so that he could take advantage of her.
They said they would reverse the charges, but she hasn’t seen a penny of what she gave to Halid Muslimovic. Western Union is currently looking into why she hasn’t received the money. Once she receives this money, she will then travel once again to Bosnia to take Halid to court, since she can’t afford it right now.
Tips When Getting Into a Serious Long Distance Relationship
- Don’t give them money for any reason.
- Report them to the FTC if you suspect you were a part of a romance scam.
- Call the police immediately if you are in danger.
- Don’t assume that just because you gave someone money that they will pay you back.
